TL/DR: Three Big Tech CEOs testify before Congress today. The CEOs of Twitter, Facebook and Google are set to testify before Congress today in a hearing titled «Disinformation Nation: Social Media’s Role in Promoting Extremism and Misinformation.» The hearing, held remotely, will feature multiple House committees, including Energy and Commerce, Communications and Technology, and Consumer Protection and Commerce.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, and Google CEO Sundar Pichai are expected to argue their respective platforms are absolved from accountability for the spread of disinformation and misinformation, and to discuss online censorship and freedom of speech, which is largely seen as a pivotal issue going forward in the digital age. These three similarly testified in 2020. A recurrent subject brought up in these hearings is repealing Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which protects online platforms from liability for content posted on their platforms.

What happens now? The Federal government will continue its efforts to reign in the power of Big Tech.
