Trump’s war against independent journalism

| Sin comentarios

FRIDAY 7 MARCH 2025

Dear Felipe,

Donald Trump is putting pressure on journalism in his own country, but he’s also threatening the future of newsrooms outside the United States. A new piece we published today looks into the impact of the cuts to USAID’s media grants for outlets in countries such as Hungary, Guatemala and Ukraine. The article is based on conversations with 15 journalists and experts, and includes a few ideas that publishers could explore to survive.

This newsletter features a link to our new factsheet on women and leadership in the news media, which shows small and unequal progress from last year. This edition also includes a link to join our upcoming Reuters Memorial Lecturetwo pieces we recently published, and several readings on the business of news
