El kit de emergencia debe incluir alimentos, agua y copias de documentos de identidad importantes, entre otros artículos.

La UE quiere que cada Estado miembro elabore un kit de supervivencia de 72 horas para que los ciudadanos puedan hacer frente a cualquier nueva crisis que pueda surgir, como parte de su Estrategia de Preparación de la Unión, que también pide un mayor almacenamiento de suministros esenciales y una mejor cooperación entre civiles y militares.

La estrategia presentada el miércoles por la Comisión Europea incluye una lista de 30 medidas concretas que los Estados miembros de la UE deben adoptar para reforzar su preparación ante posibles crisis futuras, desde catástrofes naturales y accidentes industriales hasta ataques de agentes externos en los ámbitos cibernético o militar.

“Europe cannot afford to remain reactive,” the European Commission will warn in strategy to be unveiled on Wednesday.

BRUSSELS ― Every citizen should stockpile enough food to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours in case of crisis, the European Commission is to warn, according to a draft of its Preparedness Union Strategy seen by POLITICO.

“In case of extreme disruptions, the initial period is the most critical,” the document says, setting out possible scenarios, from war to cyber attacks and deadly disease to climate-driven floods.

Five years since the first Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns and three since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and with natural disasters and financial shocks an ever-present risk, the plan lands as Europe lurches from one crisis to another. “None of the major crises of the past years were isolated or short-lived,” the document says. “Europe cannot afford to remain reactive.”

Annual threat assessment of the US Intel community

This annual report of worldwide threats to the national security of the United States responds to Section 617 of the FY21 Intelligence Authorization Act (Pub. L. No. 116-260). This report reflects the collective insights of the Intelligence Community (IC), which is committed to providing the nuanced, independent, and unvarnished intelligence that policymakers, warfighters, and domestic law enforcement personnel need to protect American lives and America’s interests anywhere in the world.

This assessment focuses on the most direct, serious threats to the United States primarily during the next year. All these threats require a robust intelligence response, including those where a near-term focus may help head off greater threats in the future.

Information available as of 18 March was used in the preparation of this assessment.

In 1861, journalists, politicians, and their families set up picnics to watch the first land battle of the American Civil War. The onlookers expected the fighting to be quick, relatively bloodless, and—perhaps most important—safe to observe.

Those assumptions were not exactly accurate; the ensuing fighting sent soldiers and spectators alike scrambling.

But those assumptions were also not entirely unfounded. Many wars at the time were confined to the battlefield, and, indeed, soldiers—not civilians—would end up composing most of the Civil War’s casualties.
