An interview with Yuval Noah Harari (The Economist)

Episode summary

Yuval Noah Harari is a big-ideas guy. He’s known for penning tomes that tackle broad sweeps of history. (They reach big audiences, too. Sapiens, Mr Harari’s most popular book, has sold 25m copies.) The historian-cum-philosopher has now turned his attention to AI. The technology, he says, is the “biggest psychological and social experiment in human history”.

He joins Zanny Minton Beddoes, The Economist’s editor-in-chief, in our London studio to discuss why he believes AIs will come to control civilisation—and what it might mean to be human in that world.
