The global economic picture is grim. Following the coronavirus pandemic, The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) expects a sharp contraction in global output this year. The years 2020 and 2021 will be lost for growth; global GDP will not recover to pre-coronavirus levels before at least 2022. Risks are tilted to the downside, as a second wave of the pandemic would derail the economic recovery. Delays in developing a vaccine also represent a major downside risk.
