Trump’s lethal presidency (AXIOS AM)

A bar chart showing U.S. airstrikes from January 2020 through February 12, 2026, by presidency. The data shows a notable spike in strikes during the Trump administration, particularly in Yemen and Afghanistan. The Biden administration shows significantly fewer airstrikes overall, with some increases in 2024. The number of strikes dramatically increases in 2025 as Trump takes office again, nearing 300 in the month of March 2025.

Data: ACLED (Armed Conflict Location & Event Data). Chart: Axios Visuals («Other» includes Iran, Iraq, Libya, Nigeria and Venezuela — as well as the waters off Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Colombia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.)

No president in the modern era has ordered more military strikes against as many countries as Donald Trump, Axios’ Zachary Basu writes.

  • He has attacked seven nations, three of which — Iran, Nigeria and Venezuela — had never been targeted by U.S. military strikes. He authorized more airstrikes in 2025 than President Biden did in four years.

US policy in a changing nuclear landscape

The world is entering a more dangerous nuclear era. Russia and China are simultaneously modernizing and expanding their nuclear arsenals, presenting the United States with the prospect of facing two nuclear peers for the first time in its history. The collapse of the New START treaty has removed the last remaining constraints on U.S. and Russian strategic nuclear forces.

Escalating tensions over Iran’s nuclear program and instability in the Middle East and on the Korean Peninsula compound an already fraught threat environment. As U.S. extended deterrence commitments come under greater strain, the potential of allied proliferation risks further destabilizing an already volatile international order.

Against this complex backdrop, longstanding assumptions about U.S. nuclear posture, modernization requirements, nuclear testing, arms control, the governance of emerging technologies with nuclear implications, and the future of initiatives like U.S. President Donald Trump’s “Golden Dome” missile and drone defense system are all under scrutiny.

Trump’s Iran stand (L Post, AJE)

Trump Iran

Trump, Iran and geopolitical mind games

As Washington escalates threats of military action against Iran, negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear programme continue behind the scenes. But while the Trump administration insists that the standoff is about security, Iran’s state media are pushing a very different narrative: that the crisis is a deliberate distraction from the Epstein scandal that continues to implicate the US president.
