What AI lacks… (Fareed Zakaria, CNN)

Will AI take everyone’s job? Or make work unnecessary, allowing everyone to laze about in hammocks?

Predictions are all over the place, but this week has brought a disquieting development: The New York Times’ Karen Weise reports, based on interviews and internal documents, that Amazon plans to replace more than a half million human jobs with robots. That includes about 160,000 potential human hires, which Amazon can avoid, that it otherwise would need to make by 2027. Continue leyendo →

AI models such as ChatGPT routinely misrepresent news events, providing faulty responses to questions almost half the time, a study has found.

The study, published on Wednesday by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the BBC, assessed the accuracy of more than 2,700 responses given by OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, Microsoft’s Copilot, and Perplexity.

What is Diplomacy? & Other Tools of Foreign Policy (CFR)

Dear Educator,

When your students think of foreign policy, they might think of people in suits shaking hands.

And they wouldn’t be wrong; that is part of foreign policy.

How countries communicate with one another to advocate for their national interests around the world, from high-level interactions between country leaders to the day-to-day operation of an embassy, is the definition of diplomacy.

But there is way more to foreign policy than handshakes.

Policymakers have many tools in their foreign policy arsenal that allow them to influence one another in order to protect and advance their national interests and values.

Foreign policy is happening all around us. This newsletter highlights headlines that showcase some of the ways the following foreign policy tools are used around the world today:

Happy learning,

Arab Barghouti in @amanpour

«The last few days have been some of the heaviest in our lives.» Many Palestinians and former Israeli officials had hoped that Marwan Barghouti would be among those released as part of the ceasefire, but Israel refused. His son, Arab Barghouti, tells me that his father was beaten unconscious by prison guards while being transferred recently: «He was bleeding and bruised… It took him… weeks to recover.» Prison authorities deny the allegation. Barghouti was convicted in 2004 for planning attacks that killed five civilians, charges he denies. Barghouti’s son tells me he believes «the Israeli government sees in him a political threat,» and appeals to President Trump to weigh in.
