Discussion on 2022 Midterm Elections
American University’s Sine Institute held a virtual discussion on the 2022 midterm elections and beyond. Former Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-VA) predicted that Democrats will maintain control of the U.S. Senate, but will lose the U.S. House–but by small margins. Political analyst Bill Kristol said that the U.S. is going through unprecedented circumstances and that there are several unknowns and variables at play. The panel, which also included pundits Katherine Miller and Janet Rodriguez, also commented on: specific contenders such as Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake (R), how the overturning of Roe v. Wade will impact voters, how the short-term news cycle affects elections, and the influences of former President Trump and President Biden on the midterms.
